An Information Meeting on “IRCICA Library and Archive Programs, Usage and Research Techniques” was held for IRCICA Researchers within the framework of the 62nd Library Week on 31st March 2026
IRCICA is gradually opening to access in digital format the valuable collections of historical photographs and rare materials contained in its archive, for the benefit of interested audiences worldwide. Two documentary videos and interviews with Director General Prof. Mahmud Erol Kılıç prepared by Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) on the subject were broadcast in the news segment of TRT1 on 19 December and the Life/Art program of TRT2 on 24 December. The videos introduced the ongoing large-scale project and the collections digitized, in particular rare ones of special value already made accessible such as around 600 photographs taken by Fahrettin Pasha (the Ottoman Commander Fahrettin Ömer Türkkan, known as The Defender of Madina during World War I) in Makkah, Madina, throughout the Hejaz, and Afghanistan (where he later served as the Ambassador of Türkiye) and more than eleven thousand photographs taken in the 20th century by Mr. Nuri Arlasez, a learned Istanbulite and collector of manuscripts and calligraphy, depicting various cities, districts and monuments including the largely extinct wooden architecture of Istanbul.
In the series of joint online seminars organized by IRCICA and Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center, Uzbekistan, this week’s guest speaker will be Dr. Didar Bayır, Head of IRCICA Library and Archive, with a lecture on the “Research Data Management and Librarians’ Support
Ms. Neslihan Sandal, Deputy Director of IRCICA Library and Archives Neslihan Sandal presented a paper titled “IRCICA Library’s Practices in Digitization and Presentation of Rare Works to the User” in the session titled “Case Studies in Rare Works” at the Rare Works Conference organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University on 19 December 2024.
Manuscripts and DigitalizationAt the “Manuscripts and Digitalization” Workshop to be organized by the Presidency of the Turkish Manuscripts Institution on February 27, 2025 at the Rami Library Campus, Neslihan Sandal, Acting Director of IRCICA Library and Archives, will make a presentation on “Digitalization Studies and Digital Collections in IRCICA Library and Archives”.
The Unknown World of Archiving ConferenceThe “The Unknown World of Archiving Conference” organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University, Department of Information and Documentation, Civilization Information Society will be held on February 27, 2025. In the conference, IRCICA Library and Archives, Archival and Technology Services Officer M. Orhan Çolak’s presentation titled “Visual Collections of IRCICA Library and Archives” will introduce the visual collections of the Center and explain the classification, digitization, preservation and access activities carried out.

2025 – IRCICA celebrated the 61st Library Week with a panel titled “IRCICA Library and Archive in the Framework of Researcher and Librarian Cooperation”. Prof. Nur Urfalıoğlu, Prof. İsmail Güleç and Prof. Ashirbek Muminov took part in the panel moderated by Prof. Didar Bayır.
